snow-leopardApple recently released OS X Snow Leopard, which features upgrades and advanced features to a number of applications. While there are too many enhancements to list, here are a few of the major enhancements:

  • Expose, which allows users to find open windows or the desktop without closing all open windows, now has more features. Simply hold the mouse down on the icon in the dock for any open application; the window darkens, exposing only the window associated for that specific application.
  • QuickTime acts as a media player for many Mac users, but with Snow Leopard, QuickTime now allows users to take advantage of QuickTime Pro features. Features include video recording and editing using the built-in iSight Camera, recording audio, or screen capturing.
  • iChat Theater allows users to share presentations, photos, spreadsheets, and documents, through the power of Instant Messaging. iChat also allows users with less bandwidth to use the program, as the system requirements are less intensive.
  • Safari 4, a web browser, is faster and more secure than previous versions. Safari 4 has a full history search, smart fields that use auto-fill and the all-new ‘Top Sites’ feature which displays screenshots of all your top web sites.
  • Snow Leopard now has built-in support for Microsoft Exchange. Users can now use iCal, Mail, and Address Book to manage your UNH Exchange account. Setup takes only a few minutes. (Note: UNH only supports use of Exchange with Outlook.)

Snow Leopard can be purchased at the UNH Computer Store in the Memorial Union Building, Level 2 East. Please feel free to contact the UNH IT Help Desk at 862-4242 with any questions.

I am interested in the last bullet, noting that SL now has built in support for ME. Yet, the author goes on to say that UNH only supports the use of Exchange with Outlook (and not Mail). Does UNH IT plan to support this in the future, if so, when?
